Week of April 27, 2007By Rory Horning Editor TOWNS VS COMMUNITIES TRUTH-JUSTICE & THE AMERICAN WAY – The difference between TOWNS and Communities is really very subtle. A Town is a place where people gather together for economic necessity, while a Community is a place where a group of people place personal economic gain second to the considerations and needs of the group as a whole. The first produces a great division between the “haves” and the “have-nots”. The second produces a meld of all socioeconomic levels and talents and produces a vibrant, productive, healthy and nurturing environment. The first gives definition to the term dog eat dog society. The second supports the concept of family and neighbors. The first is extremely expensive to maintain with law enforcement and human services needing the majority of tax dollars to operate due to the “gap” between people. The second is quite economical to administer because most problems are solved simply by people and families assisting each other with the fun things in life instead of problems. Both of these concepts need citizen participation. The first needs the go alongs squad. The second needs the go along to get along squad the law abiders, the I’ll take responsibility squad, the I care and I’ll help folks, etc. The first scenario constantly needs more money because they have all of the what’s in it for ME people. The other gets things accomplished without great expenses because everyone contributes either time talent or materials, but most of all support. The difference in these two concepts while very subtle are either promoted or inhibited by the individual and only the individual. This leads me into last week’s portion of the Oaths of Office and whose name is on one’s work? On this column its’ my name Rory Horning; no one else’s. Copyright © 2007 River City Dispatch. |
